The Carillon Newspaper Inc.‘s 2023 AGM
Our annual general meeting (AGM) is a place for membership – any registered student – to come hear how the Editor-in-Chief and Business Manager are operating the Carillon and what the Board of Directors and Editorial Board have been up to for the past year. Our 2023 AGM will be held in-person at the Lazy Owl in the Riddell Centre on Saturday, May 13 starting at 2:30 p.m. with doors opening at 2 p.m. We will be requiring proof of student registration because our membership is made up of students at the U of R, so please make sure you have your student ID card with you because you will be asked for it at our registration table.
The agenda for this meeting was due to our membership April 28, 2023, but was uploaded for membership to view on May 2, 2023. This was in large part due to inadequate book and minute keeping done by prior staff, and we will have more details to share at the AGM itself.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we have taken actions including revising our constitution, outlining training guides and policies that must be written, and setting up new meeting types and meeting agenda templates to ensure future Carillon staff, directors, and membership will not have these issues in the future. We will welcome questions from membership at our AGM, and look forward to sharing our plans. The agenda contains a schedule and outline for what will happen at our AGM. In keeping with our constitution, our membership includes all registered students. That doesn’t mean you have to be taking a class during the semester of the AGM, but you have to still be in the progress of finishing your program of study, and be eligible to register for courses if you want to. As long as you are registered for or realistically could login at UR Self-Service and register for them in May, you’ll be welcome as an eligible voting member at our AGM.
